The Exterior
The exterior styling resembles the 1969's with the deeply set headlamps and grille,
as well as the three slits ahead of the rear wheel opening. Missing from the concept
car is the roll down rear quarter windows, which resulted in a true hard top
appearance. Instead, a fixed rear quarter window which covers the B-pillar for
improved body integrity. Camaro is once again a 2 door coupe, dismissing the
hatchback body configuration of the previous two generations. Like all Camaros of the
past, the door glass is frameless. The door handles are now the GM standard style
body color "grab" handles which are far more practical and produceable than the
style of the concept car. Another practical feature of the production car will be
outside rearview mirrors which mimmick the shape of those from the concept but
possess a much larger surface area.

The frontal appearance is an identity all it's own, yet is easily recognized as Camaro. The grill has the character of the 1969 version despite being of a heavier mesh. In keeping with the current Chevrolet theme, the bow-tie is gold, not the blue of yesteryear. The headlamps are single, round units with the turn signal lamps nestled to the inside. Two headlamp applications will be offered, standard halogen or High Intensity Discharge (HID) units with "halo ring" display when the RS Equipment is ordered. On the 1969 models, the positioning of the front parking lamps simulated fog lamps, on the 2010, they are real fog lamps. On SS models, a revised front fascia is used with a stronger lower splitter (spoiler) as well as "bumps" which give the appearance of the front bumper being pushed outward on the corners.

The body lines are as crisp and delightful today as they were in 2006 when the concept was shown. The hood retains the "power bulge" that was a character trait of the '69 Z28. The slit that was seen on the concept car will be missing on all but the SS versions of the Camaro, and unfortunately, the opening will be non-functional. The body has subtley flared rear fenders, not enough to be boy-racerish, but just enough to show prowess. The fenders and the beltline sweep have similar characteristics of the first generation cars. On the roof, there is a lengthwise depression that GM is referring to as a "reverse mohawk" treatment.

At the rear are four individual taillamps, reminescent of the 1970-73 round taillamp arrangement. All will have a dual outlet exhaust system with V6 cars having 3" diameter chrome tips and 3.75" tips for V8 cars.Atop the decklid, there's an available rear spoiler that's standard on SS and available on LTs as part of the RS Equipment. The palate for Camaro is ten colors deep, being comprised of: Victory Red, Black, Rally Yellow, Silver Ice Metallic, Cyber Gray Metallic, Aqua Blue Metallic, Inferno Orange Metallic, Imperial Blue Metallic, and Red Jewel Tintcoat which is an extra cost color. White will join the selection later in production.
